Former Barcelona and Nigerian international Samuel Gbeng Okunowo joined VB sports yesterday 19th January 2009. Okunowo is a 29 year old defender who was discovered by Spanish giant Barcelona’s scouts in 1997 while he was playing for Nigerian club Shooting stars. Shootings stars lost African Champions cup to Zamalek in 1996 and a year later he was transferred to FC Barcelona for a fee of US$50,000.On August 18th 1998, Okunowo made his debut start to Barcelona against Real Mallorca under coach Louis Van Gaal. He started eight games and another six games as a substitute to Barcelona on their road to win the league, where they finished eleven points ahead of Real Madrid.He also started five of Barcelona’s six games in the champions’ league that season and faced clubs like Bayern Munich and Manchester United. In 1999-2000 season Barcelona loaned Okunowo to Portuguese side Benfica, where he played nine games and scored two.Barcelona terminated his contract in June 2002 after the player suffered a serious knee injury. In 2003 he joined Romanian champions Dinamo Bucharest on a free transfer but failed to adapt to Romanian championship. He played just two games and canceled his contract.Okunowo played 12 games for Nigerian under 17 team and 15 games for Under  20. For under 23 he played 18 games and 13 games for Nigeria senior national team from 1999 to 2000.

VB to face stiff resistance in AFC Cup

Maldives outfits for the AFC Cup has to face stiff resistance in the upcoming AFC Cup, after the draws that were held few minutes ago in AFC headquarters in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia. VB Sports has been drawn in Group F with South China of Hong Kong, Johor of Malaysia and a play- off team from the AFC Champions League.

Meanwhile, Valencia is drawn in Group H with Home United of Singapore, Becamex Bingh Duong of Vietnam and a play-off team from the AFC Champions League.

South China of Hong Kong is not a new team for the Maldives Soil. They beat Victory 3 -0 in Hong Kong last year and managed a draw in Maldives. They managed the 3^rd spot in that group. Johor of Malaysia is a new team for the AFC Cup.

Valencia is drawn in a more difficult group with Home United who would be tipped to top the group. Becamex Bingh Duong of Vietnam thrashed New Radiant by 5 -0 in the recently ended Bing Duang Tournament.

VB called off training camp

VB sports confirmed they have cancelled the training camp to Malaysia. After a board meeting, the club decided it is not worth a while to spend so much on such a camp at a time when world economy is weak.Club manager Ibrahim Rasheed (Satho) added further that the current world economic condition has an impact on Maldives economy.“We had a board meeting and also discussed with the coach to cancel the trip. It is not right to spend that much this time” manager Ibrahim Satho said.VB was at the final stage of leaving when the training trip was called off. Meanwhile two of their foreign players were arrived already and the other player will join the club on Wednesday.

Sina joins VB …

Sinaz Hilmy have signed a one year contract with Vb Sports today.The telented youngstar who is a member of Maldives National Team who won the Saff gold medal in 2008 is the last local edition to the club for the  season 2009.It was early repoted in media that he is gona stay in Valencia.But VB offer was too good to reject for him.Hope he will do much better than last year.Goodluck sina.

ވީބީގެ މެނޭޖަރު އިބްރާހީމް ރަޝީދު (ސަތޯ) ބުނުއްވި ގޮތުގައި ކޯޗު ފުރިނަމަވެސް މިމަހުގެ 13 ވަނަ ދުވަހާ ހަމައަށް ކުލަބްގެ ޕްރެކްޓިސް ކުރިޔަށްދާނެއެވެ.

“މިމަހުގެ 13 ވަނަ ދުވަހާ ހަމައަށް ޕްރެކްޓިސް ކުރިޔަށްދާނެ. 13 ގައި ޕްރެކްޓިސް ކޮށްފަ ހުއްޓާލާނީ. އެއަށްފަހު ދެން ޕްރެކްޓިސް ފަށާނީ ޑިސެމްބަރު 20 ވަނަ ދުވަހު. މިމަހުގެ 13 އާ ހަމައަށް ޕްރެކްޓިސް ކުރިޔަށްދާނީ ކޯޗުގެ ދަރިފުޅުގެ ބެލުމުގެ ދަށުން. ޑިސެމްބަރު 20 ގެ ފަހުން ޕްރެކްޓިސް ފަށާނީވެސް ކޯޗުގެ ދަރިފުޅުގެ ބެލުމުގެ ދަށުން. ކޯޗު ރާއްޖެ އަންނާނީ ޖެނުއަރީ 5 ވަނަ ދުވަހު” ސަތޯ ބުނުއްވިއެވެ.

ވީބީގެ ސީއީއޯ ގަހުތާން ޙަލީމް ވިދާޅުވެފައިވަނީ ޑިސެމްބަރ 20 ވަނަ ދުވަހު ފަށާއިރު 2009 ގެ ސްކޮޑް އޮންނާނީ ފައިނަލް ވެފައި ކަމަށެވެ.
